Clearing the Air (and my conscience)

I've got something that's been weighing on me that I feel like I need to address. A few weeks ago (in June), I did a post called Gratitude/Really Good News. The original post contained one thing that I went back and edited to explain, and then later went back and completely deleted.

What's bothering me is that I may have offended someone with what I wrote. In the post, I listed "The suicide rate is higher among girls who have had breast implants" (something to that affect) as Really Good News. In my mind, it sounded funny and light. Not because I think suicide is laughable, (because I don't think that at all). To me, it was like, Ha! Less to compete with. That's funny stuff.

Well, it's been weeks since that post and it's been eating at me. So sincerely, if I offended you, please forgive me. That was totally not my intention. I would never post anything mean-spirited. I hoped that people would understand my style of humor. This is for the people that didn't. Please accept my sincere apology.

Thank you.

It's your blog. You're allowed to say whatever you want. People will get offended no matter what you do. I just had this experience today. Someone was offended because I even made a reference to "boobs," because I am a Christian. Ummm ... Christians don't know about boobs? And can't talk about boobs? God made boobs. Sorry, I didn't get this comment and it really angered me.

I guess I didn't catch this post the first time :)

I hate when stuff I've said/wrote eats at me...good idea to clear the air :)

PS - I'm pretty hard to offend...unless someone calls me "religious" then I cannot be held responsible for my actions ;)

suicide rate (in my opinion) is higher among women with implants because many are very sick and probably don't know why. check out my story at www.myimplantstory.com and a blog where i blog with other women who were also sick from implants www.beautyandthebreast.org

thanks.

i don't think that i caught that line in your post. either way, i think the first 2 commenters are both right.

this is your blog and you can't "please" everyone when you blog...it seems someone could always be offended by something...but Sarah also had a great point about clearing your conscience if it's weighing on you. I feel that there are times where this is needed at least for ourselves... :-)

i enjoy your blog and will be a continued reader. :-)

I think it's wonderful that you're not desensitized to who might be reading. You never know who's dropping in. And even if someone had surgery for medical reasons, the jokes can still hurt, not that I've never made any. I know with humor writing I walk a fine line some time. But I think, "Is it worth the joke if I drive her [the reader] away and then she never reads something of substance that I finally have to say?" Anyway, I say, if it bothers you, you did the right thing.

Aw, Jodie, you are such a sweetie. I actually do remember this post but wasn't offended by it...but still, if it was bothering you, then good for you for fixing it. :) You're awesome, and I always know that everything is said with you own brand of humor attached.

Daphne: I hear you. This is just one time I felt convicted about what I said, and felt the need to address it. I never got any comments about it, but it was really bothering me.

Y'all are great! Thanks for your understanding. It's a case by case thing, and I just want to be sensitive when I feel nudged in my heart.

Thank you all for your comments. I appreciate them very much.

I don't remember that part of the post at all.

It seems hard to maintain a blog and never offend anybody; it's inevitable no matter how hard we try. I'd love to have a blog that is totally uncensored some day...but I have enough trouble maintain my meager one as it is. hah!
